Boxer Khabib Nurmagomedov surprised many fans after announcing his retirement from the MMA general martial arts ring. The Russian boxer made this decision right after defeating rival Justin Gaethje in the UFC 254 event held in Abu Dhabi (UAE).
Lightweight champion Nurmagomedov said his retirement was to fulfill his promise to his deceased father. In July, Nurmagomedov’s father passed away at the age of 58 due to complications from COVID-19. This martial artist’s mother advised retiring to take care of his family.
Justin Gaethje is considered the toughest rival of Khabib in his career. However, the Russian boxers still know how to maintain their winning streak. He extended his winning streak to 29, including 13 wins in the championship lightweight and defending the UFC championship. In the UFC career, Khabib has not lost a match. A few months ago, Khabib said he wanted to retire after winning a streak of 30 wins. But now, this martial artist has decided to retire early.
Khabib deserved the title of unbeaten martial art and the culmination of his career was when he defeated Conor McGregor, the number 1 martial arts in the world at that time in 2018.
Nurmagomedov’s decision to retire makes the possibility of a rematch with Russian rival Conor McGregor unlikely. Instead, Justin Gaethje could play Conor McGregor early next year.
